Another fruitful day for East at Cougar

Christian 10, Escondido Charter 4 (6 inn.) – Big sixth inning Monday afternoon leads to six runs and a Christian victory over Escondido Charter.

A walk by Ashley Wood led to a run, two runs would come into score on a fielder’s choice and an error, Kaitlyn Moody drove in a pair of  runs on a two-run double, and Keels Carrizosa finished things out with an RBI single.

Christian (6-1) would start the scoring early in the first inning thanks to Moody who drove in a run. Escondido Charter tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run.

A couple of innings later in the top of the third the Patriots wMoody ld break the tie when Wood singled and Sammy Baca followed with a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 3-1.

Ava Barrios who started for the Patriots picked up the win as she allowed four runs on four hits over four innings while walking one and striking out two.

Offensively the Patriots tallied 11 hits in the contest. Tyler Krystek led all hitters with three hits in four at-bats, she also scored twice and doubled. Moody on the day drove in three runs while going 2-for-3 at the plate and Reese Danczak also went 2-for-3 at the plated.

Stee;e Canyon 17, Escondido 0 (4 inn.) – Quite the performance on Monday for the Steele Canyon offense as they pounded out 19 hits in their convincing shutout victory of the host school Escondido on Monday.

Offensively, Makenzie Meyer put on a performance as she went 3-for-4 at the plate which included a homerun deep over the center field fence in the second inning and singled in both the first and third innings. She also scored three times and drove in three runs.

Steele Canyon as a whole would go onto score nine runs in the second inning to really put things away. Sophia Jackel doubled in a pair of runs, Meyer belted a three-run shot, Hailey Trujillo singled in a run, Marina Gonzalez drove in a run, Jackel drove in another run and Tevia Cohen drove in a run.

Prior to the big second inning the Cougars (3-4) took advantage in the first inning of three Escondido errors that led to four runs in the inning. Not only did they take advantage of the errors but Bailey Evans drove in a run.

Evans who took the circle for the Cougars picked up the win. On the day she allowed zero runs on three hits over four innings in which she walked two and struck out two.

In the second game of the day the Steele Canyon Cougars dropped a 8-1 decision to the Westview Wolverines.

Dannika Lakin led the Cougars at the plate going 2-for-3 and Hailey Trujillo drove in a run.


Valhalla 3, San Pasqual 0 –
In quite the pitchers duel the Valhalla Norsemen took advantage at the right time of their opportunities to come away with the win on Monday evening.

It wouldn’t be until the fourth inning until the first run was scored on a ground ball out by Vanessa Moscoso that allowed Natalia Marco to race home go vie them a 1-0 lead.

A couple of innings later in the bottom of the sixth inningm Valhalla (5-2) would score a couple of insurance runs with two outs thanks to Liliana Moscoso who singled to center to score both Emma Sloan who also doubled in the contest and Moscoso to extend the lead 3-0.

Devyn Mack the right hander for Valhalla would get the win. She would shutout the Golden Eagles in which she allowed two hits over seven innings in which she fanned four.

Avery Voth also contributed at the plate with her 2-for-3 and on the bases with a stolen base.
 

Del Norte 5, Patrick Henry 2 – Despite outhitting the Del Norte Nighthawks 5-3 the Patrick Henry Patriots couldn’t overcome a four run third inning in the loss on Monday.

Izzy Ervin led Patrick Henry  (2-3) in hitting as she tallied a 2-for 3 day at the plate which included a solo home run to left field to go along with her RBI and run scored. Other contributors for the Patriots included Jiana Mallari who went 1-for-2, Stephanie La who went 1-for-2 and Sivan Benami who also went 1-for-2 and drove in a run, Angelina Mazon scored a run.

Zoe Rutherford drew the start for the Patriots. On the day she allowed five runs (four earned) on two hits over three innings while walking three and striking out four in the loss.
