Spargo Inches Closer To Wolf Pack History

West Hills 10, Rancho Buena Vista 1 – Senior hurler Gianna Burgin crafted a wicked against the RBV Longhorns as she fanned 13 Longhorns to procure the dominant victory on Wednesday.

Burgin went six innings in which she allowed one run on three hits.

The offense for the Pack would finally catch up to the pitching in the fourth inning as Kristina Deal (2-4, 2R, RBI, HR) belted a lead-off home run deep over the center-field fence, and the other run in the inning came when Sophia Zayac (1-4, 2B, 3 RBI) grounded out which led to a second run scoring.

West Hills would a couple of innings later push across five runs to really put things away. Those runs came on five hits courtesy of Kiara Rabya (3-4, 3R, 2 RBI, 2B) driving in a pair of runs, Katy Spargo (3-4, 4 RBI, 2B) driving in a run and a two-run double by Zayac.

Hitting wise both Spargo and Rabaya were a force together as they each tallied three hits combining for six of the Pack’s twelve hits in the contest. Other Pack players with multiple hits included Deal and Lili Leija (2-3, 2R).

With the win West Hills improves to 3-0.

GAME NOTES – Katy Spargo with her three hits in the game moves into third all-time for most hits in a career at West Hills. After today she sits behind Alex Guay who played for the Pack from 2014-17 who tallied 115 career hits and also Courtney Horne who finished her career with 166 hits from 2011-14.

Another milestone/record that is within reach is the century mark for career RBI. Counting todays contest Katy Spargo is only nine RBI from hitting the century mark as she has 91. She is also fourteen RBI from tying and fifteen from breaking the all-time career mark for West Hills which is held by Courtney Horne who drove in 105 RBIs.


Mission Hills 6, Patrick Henry 2 –
Despite having an early lead it just wasn’t Patrick Henry’s day as Mission Hills pushed across four runs in the bottom of the second inning and that would be the difference as they held the Patriots bats in check to claim the win on Wednesday.

Patrick Henry took the early momentum with a pair of runs in the top of the first courtesy of an RBI single by Zoe Rutherford and a sacrifice fly by Emily Caddy to bring in another run to give them a 2-0 lead.

However, the lead would be short-lived thanks to a pair of doubles in the bottom of the first by Mission Hills to tie the game at 2-2.

The Grizzlies would break the tie in the bottom off the second inning on a single and an error that scored two runs and a fielder’s choice.

Rutherford who also started in the circle would take the loss. On the day she went three innings in which she allowed six runs on five hits while striking out two.

The other bat to contribute for the Patriots was leadoff hitter Izzy Ervin who had two hits in three at bats against the Grizzlies.

Patrick Henry drops to 0-2 on the early season.
