Mount Miguel 50, Calexico 48
CALEXICO – In one of the biffest shockers on the opening round of the postseason, 12th-seeded Mount Miguel aurvived a trip to the Imperial Valley to stop No. 5 Calexio, 50-48.
Trailing 36-33, the Matadors out-scored the host Bulldogs by a 17-12 count over the balance of Wednesday’s (Fevb. 15) game in Division 3.
Although by just four points, Munt Miguel took its biggest lead with less than a minute to pay, the neld on in the closing seconds.
Helix 43, Christian 41
EL CAJON – In a battle between a pair of teams which played at less tghan full strength all season, Helix gained much talent to its roster over the last month of the regular season, which proved to be the difference to nip Christian in a CIFSDS Division 2 postseason opener at Ryan Athletic Center on Tuesday (Feb. 18).
The Highlanders poor start resulted in a No. 14 seed, but they were good enough to plsce as runner-up in the Grossmont Hills League, then take down the City League co-champion Patriots, 43-41.
Helix advances to the quarterfinals at Te Bishop’s School, to be contested at the Fleet Center in La Jolla.
Other local winners were Steele Canyon (D2), ranite Hills nd Foothills Christian (D4), Santana, and Liberty Charter (D-5AA).
Individual players information was not reported.
