FLETCHER HILLS – Grossmont High guard Aakash Price poured home 31 points, including a remarkable six points over an 11 second span of the third quarter, leading the Foothillers to the Grossmont Hills League championship after rasllying past El Capitan, 60-54, in Friday’s (Feb. 14) regular-season finale.
Orice, who basically took over the contest in the third quarter, did more than her scoring. The sophomore led the Hillers defensive press which finally slowed down the Vaqueros late in the second quarter, coming back from an 8-point deficit to move within a bucket by halftime, 30-28.

The scoring spurt followed moments into the second half.
Following a Price drive into the lane for a layin while surrounded by El Cp traffic, Price intercepted the ball for another bucks — not once, but twice, for the her six points to secure a 41-33 lead to cap an 8-0 run. Price collected 10 of her points in the period.
The Vaqueros turned the ball over nine times in the period, yet moved to within a basket with the ballgame’s final moments.
However, the Grossmont defense came through — but it wasn’t on press.
With the Vaqueros gaining an opportunity to close with two points with just over a minute remaining, freshman forward Esther Agoh took a charge while standing on the end of the key to forge a turnover.
Following Price, three other Hillers –sophomores Jaliyah Fleming and Arionna Simpson, plus frosh Esther Agoh — each finished with 7 points.
For El Capitan, Lilly Williams paced the Vaq Attack with 14 points. The center registered a double-double with 10 rebounds.
The other top scorers for the Vaqueros were Keira Heinricy (11 points) and Paige Worthem (10).
Williams, the center, posted a double-double with 10 rebounds.
With the victory, the Foothillers (22-3 overall) completed an 8-0 run to their second straight GHL title. Grossmont shared the crown with Helix last season.
El Capitan (23-5), which would’ve shared the league title with a win, finish second at 6-2.
