LA MESA – The Helix Charter High School Highlanders remembered one of their own on Friday (Jan. 3), honoring Hall of Fame basketball player Bill Walton prior to the Scotties basketball contests against the University City Centurions.
Walton, 71, passed on May 29, the day after his beloved Pacific 12 Conference announced it would close its doors following the conference baseball tournament.
Dozens of former players and coaches, including member of the 1969-70 Scotties which captured the CIF San Diego Section championship with a perfect 33-0 record, were in attendance.
Along with many payers, head coach Gordon Nash, 91 (with cane) attended to remember who could be considered the greatest player ever from San Diego County.
