CARMEL HIGHLANDS – For the second dtrsight season, Grosmont High advanced to the semifinals of the CIF-San Diego Section girls flag football championships.
After falling to eventual c hampion Bonita Vista in 2023, the Foothillers beat the Barns ion this season’s quarterfinals, but then were eliminated by second-seeded Torrey Pines, 24-19, on Saturday (Nov. 16).
Meawnhile, the three remaining schools from the Grossmont Hills League were placed in the CIF Division 3 pool.
Santana fell in the first round; Granite Hills captured a game despite being seeded at the division’s bottom (they beat No. 5 Rancho Buena Vista, 45-25), before being ousted; but Steele Canyon reached the semifinals before finally falling to eventual championn Mater Dei Catholic.
In Division II, Patrick Henry was tossed out quickly at home by No. 11 San Dieguito, 41=12. Ramona failed to qualify for postseasonn action.
It was a strange season for Mater Dei Catholic since they started the season so poorly.
