SAN MARCOS – San Diego Mesa running back Davis scored the go-ahead touchdown with 1:18 remaining, as the Olympians survived a scare from host Palomar College, 14-10, at the new on-campus facility at Palomar. BOXSCORE
Davis rushed in from 10 yards out to offset a 33-yard field gaol by Jack Meyers which gave the Coets a 13-10 lead late in the thid quarter.
Both sides traded first-half scores.
Mesa took the initial lead on the first drive of the contest. Danny Davis scored on a 4-yard run.
Palomar pulled evem on its first drive, Quincy Herron hauled in a 4-yard pass from K.J. Chatham.
Then the defense controlled the contest until the closing minutes. Palomar intercepted Mesa four tumes, ioncluding three thefts by Davion Green.
San Diefo Mesa finishes with an 8-2 mark (5-2 NCSD) and will participate in a bolw game. However, Palomar;s loss left them at 4-6 (304 NCSD) and out of the bowl picture.
Southwestern 28, Grossmont 7
CHULA VISTA – For the first time since the pandemic four years ago, Southwestern College was the highest scoring team among San Diego County community college after downing Grossmont, 28-7, in the regular-season finale at DeVore Stadium. BOXSCORE
The Haguars ground game contributed to all four rushing touchdowns.
The Griffins erased the clean-sheet early in the fourth quarter on 7-yard rush by Isaiah Pressley.
Southwestern lists its record at 0-6 in conference, but that’s obuisouly not correct. Overall, the Jags’ request for a forfeit was approved, but now the record is back to 1-8.
Grossmont went 1-9 (0-6) NDSC) this season.
