Homecoming Queen leads Griffins hoops

TORRANCE – Most local fans of high schools know that most schools located inside Imperial County are members of the CIF-San Diego Section.

However, there is one CIFSDS school not located in San Diego or Imperial counties. And this school might have a bearing on area womejn’s commujioty college basektabll this season.

The school is Palo Verde Valley High, located in the eastern Rivereside County town of Blythe, along the Colorado River.

From there, a Yellowjackets basketball product is Charlie Dagnino, a freshman gunslinger from the outside who pumped in a game-high 18 points on Friday (Nov. 1) to leaqd Grossmont College in an easy pasting of host El Camino College, 73-43., at the ECC South Gym.

The contest was one of the last events to be held at the historic facility. It will soon be replaced by a new $35 million ECC Gym Complex (announced HERE).

Griffins point guard Kyla Palpallatoc tsllied 120 of her NUMBER points in the first period to give the Griffins a 19-3 lead.

From there, Dagnino took over. sinking all three of her 3-point attempted as paertr of her 11 points in the second period, giving the Griffins a commanding 43-9 cushion.

The 34-point margin was Grossmont’s greatest since one leading district rival Cuyamaca, 44-5.

Also scoring in double figures for Grossmont was
center Janea Wilson (Steele Canyon) with 11 Points; Palpallatoc,14; Janea Wilson (Steele Canyon),12; and Anayla Anderson (Los Angeles), 11.

Palpallatoc also lead with 7 rebounds and 6 assists, sharing the assists honors with Anderson.

For the Warriors, center Bella Blum led with 19 points and 9 biardsm but also committed 12 turnovers.


Saturday’s game

Cuyamaca at Copper Mountain

JOSHUA TREE – On Fridasy, host Copper Mountain College opened the season by downing Southwestern College, 63-43.

As for Saturday’s Fightig Cacti contest with Cuyamaca College, well, there was no report.

The contest was slated for noon, which means the ballclub should’ve returned to San DiegoCoujty by 5 p.m. However, as of 10 p.m., there were no reports to ECS or to the CCCAA state website.
