SAN CARLOS – Patrick Henry cornerback Rosie Pastenes equaled a flag football record that can never be broken, while quarterback Regan Jones rushed for a pair of touchdowns, leading the Patriots over visiting Clairemont, 25-7, in Thursday’s (Oct. 17) San Diego City Conference non-league ballgame,
Pastenes raced 80 yards with an interception for a touchdown, the longest possible return in amatreur (high school or college) football.
She equaled the mark set by Grossmont linebacker Siena Botkin (Sept. 16 vs.Carlsbad).
The theft by the sophomore gave Patrick Henry (9-4 overall) a 13-0 halftime lead.
Jones then added a pair of second-half scores, both times scrambling out of the pocket for romps of 22 and 6 yards after the Chieftains secondary had the receivers covered.
The Patriots took the early lead, also on a running play. Georgia :Jo-Jo” Branam raced in from the Clairemont-4
The margin eventually reach 19-0 before the Chieftains (also 8-4 overall) scored in a raucous contest between the ballclubs.
However, Patrick Henry had the last laugh on Jones’ second score to cap the contest.
Next for Patrick Henry is a Western League road trip to Hoovrt on Monday, starting at 5:15 p.m.
