GRANITE HILLS 45, MADISON 0 – The Granite Hills Eagles turned in a complete performance against the Madison Warhawks.
Trevor Smith had two interceptions, including one in which he returned 40 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter to make it 14-0.
Turner had a 30-yard touchdown run, that gave the Eagles a 31-0 lead at the half. He also scored the first touchdown of the game on a 2-yard run. The other score came on a 14-yard run.
Senior Lathan Fry threw a touchdown pass to junior Emilio Vera from nine yards for the final score of the game in the fourth quarter.
Brenden Lewis had seven catches for 75 yards for the Eagles.
Junior Steve Calderon had a sack for Granite Hills.
Senior Trent Whitlock booted a 35-yard field goal.
Santana 44, Clairemont 8
SANTANA — Kaedyn Hallman scored four touchdowns and was named Homecoming King at halftime as Santana won its third straight game by downing the Chieftains agt Community Stadium on Friday night.
Santana (4-1) led 23-0 at the end of the first quarter against the Chieftains as Hallman scored three times
Hallman rushed 10 times for 116 yards. He had a 41- yard touchdown to make the score 14-0 with 4:28 left in the first quarter. His 5-yard runh opened the scoring and his 26-yard score made it 21-0 with 2:35 left.
Wyatt Williams, a senior, added a 3-yard rushing touchdown, as Santana rushed for 219 yards on the night.
Santana’s quarterbacks – sophomore Ethan Miller and freshman Kyle Carnes – combined to go 7-of-8 for 123 yards.
Miller threw a touchdown pass of 11 yards to Noah Qualin to make it 30-0.
Hallman added a 5-yard score for a 37-0 lead.
Senior Aiden Thornton had a pair of sacks for Santana.
Sophomore Kolton Thornton had a team-high six tackles for the Sultans.
Loyola 46, No. 4 Mount Miguel 38
SPRING VALLEY — Mount Miguel didn’t necessarily lack firepower against the visiting Loyola Cubs, of Los Angeles.
Mount Miguel (4-1) just had trouble finishing on its red zone opportunities.
Matadors quarterback A.J. Stowers passed for a school-record 481 yards. He also threw five touchdowns.
Falling behind 14-3 put the Matadors in chase mode but they just couldn’t get scores every time they got close.
Also, the Matadors didn’t mount a complimentary running game, which may have hindered those efforts. Mount Miguel had just 44 yards on 21 carries.
A.J. Logan had another huge night, as the junior receiver had nine receptions for 196 yards and three scores for the Matadors.
Mount Miguel junior Brandon Arrington hauled in an 80-yard bomb from Logan to draw the Matadors to within 14-10.
After Loyola went ahead 21-10,
Parris Vernon had had three catches for 119 yards for the Matadors.
No. 23 Point Loma 27, Steele Canyon 16
SPRING VALLEY — Point Loma had five interceptions against Steele Canyon, ending the Cougars three-game winning streak.
The Pointers have had a strong history of excellent defensive back play.
While the Cougars are known to be anchored by a strong running game, Steele was quickly taken out of their usual gameplan when they fell behind.
After Point Loma took an early 14-0 lead, Steele Canyon answered with a 12-yard touchdown connection to Austin Haisch from quarterback Gavin Caha.
Steele Canyon was limited to just 32 yards on the ground on 18 attempts.
Caha finished with 221 yards through the air, including seven hookups with Haisch for 94 yards.
Junior Noah De Arcos had three receptions, including one for a touchdown from Caha.
Senior Jacob Vazquez had six receptions for SC, while senior teammate Marsello Oliieri had four receptions for 44 yards.
