SANTEE — Outside of the spring football season of 2021, the West Hills Wolf Pack had never started 0-3 under head coach Casey Ash.
With the Wolf Pack coming in winless this season, the Vista Panthers — winners of just two games over their last 21 ballgames — had to be weary about the trip to West Santee.
West Hills had a laser focus in thumping Vista, 31-16, on Friday night to break into the win column.
West Hills scored first on an 8-yard run by senior Ryder Alexander.
West Hills senior Preston Cortez blocked a punt which led to the Pack’s second score.
Junior Aidan Kidwell made it 14-0 on a 6-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Brayden DeAngelis, making his first start of the season.
DeAngelis, a junior, passed for 141 yards on 7-of-12 throws.
West Hills scored on a 51-yard pass play from DeAngelis to junior Anthony Rosolino, as Rosolino took a short pass and raced into the end zone for a 21-0 lead.
Rosolino also had a 42-yard reception down to the 1 and following a Pack penalty, West Hills scored its fourth touchdown on a 5-yard run by Edgard Leon, a senior.
Junior Rey Garcia had an interception in the second half for the Wolf Pack.
West Hills senior Marshon Mitchell and Christian Parker recorded sacks for the Pack.
Senior Brayden Reed had three catches for 36 yards for West Hills.
West Hills’ tradition of a strong kicking game is certainly being upheld by junior Christian Slojkowski, who is averaging an East County-best 41.7 yards a punt this season. He also kicked his first field goal of the season in Friday’s win.
