EAST COUNTY FEARLESS FORECASTER
Thursday’s game
CASTLE PARK (1-1) at MONTE VISTA (0-2) — The Monarchs showed plenty of heart and talent, especially offensively, in a wild 41-35 loss at Kearny.
While the Monarchs thrilled their fans by taking the lead lead, the Monte Vista defense was a bit un-Monarch like against the Komets.
Monte Vista should find the stops somewhat easier here at home against the Trojans.
The Monarchs were able to pass for over 100 yards against Kearny, as Dayon Bean threw for 115 yards. The Monarchs had just one game where they amassed over 100 yards passing last season (in a Week three loss to San Ysidro).
Monte Vista’s Alex Villanueva smashed for 259 yards rushing and four touchdowns in an overlooked performance locally. His 40-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter put the Monarchs ahead 35-27.
The Trojans won their opener over Victory Christian Academy, 14-13, behind 185 yards rushing and one touchdown from senior Christian Hayes. They also had a touchdown pass of 38 yards to freshman Aiddien Smith.
Castle Park had five sacks in the opening-season win. The Trojans lost last week against Calexico, 35-7, at home.
These two clubs played a regular series in the late ’90s, splitting six games between 1994-99… MONTE VISTA, 34-16.
Check out the post-game interview from Monte Vista’s 35-19 win over Castle Park, plus Dave and Ramon’s predictions for Friday’s games on tonight’s East County Sports Report…
