PASADENA — The Grossmont College women’s volleyball team, which earned a bronze medal for fijnishing third at lastr season’s CCCAA state championshiops,opened the season with a split of matches at the Pasadena Tournament.
The Griffins (1-1) easily blanked Cypress in three sets, but then were shocked by a vastly improved Pasadena ballclub, also in three sets.
In THE Grossmont victory, freshman Andrea Torres (OTAY rANCH) led the ballclub with 14 kills, followed by sophomore Sara Lozano (Eastlake HS) with 10 kills in the straight sets victory of 25-21, 25-17, 25-21. BOXSCORE

Next weekend (Aug. 30-31), the Griffins will participate in the state North vs. South Showcase at Fresno City College. They will meet Sierra, Feather River, San Joaquin Delta and the host Rams. SCHEDULE
