Record Book

May 22, 1975

The longest game (by innings, not duration) was completed, as Santana rallied to nip the host Braves, 8-7 in the 18th inning.

Since this writing following the 2024 season, the ballgame remains the most prolonged baseball game in CIF San Diego Section history ; the softball record is 26 innings.

The Sultans-Braves face-off started in the first round of league play at Santana, yet was eventually suspended following 16 frames tied at 6-all.

In most seasons, such contests simply ended in a draw, but this outing was continued when the teams met in the second round at Wells Park, which also happened to be the final day of the regular season.

With El Cajon Valley (the visiting team) batting first, the Braves scored to take a 7-6 lead in the 18th. However, the Sultans’ Pete Parsons answered with a two-run, game-winning walk-off) home run for the victory.

The decision left the ballclubs tied for fourth place in the Grossmont League standings. When Santana took the regularly-scheduled nightcap, 3-1, the Sultans finished alone in fourth place at 8-8; the Braves were 7-9 in a tie fofor f fifth with Mount Miguel and Monte Vista.
