SANTEE – Looking to continue their winning ways the West Hills Wolf Pack did so behind a strong pitching performance to prevail 5-1 over the Grossmont Foothillers on Thursday afternoon to conclude Grossmont Valley League play.
West Hills didn’t take long to get going as they would take an early 2-0 lead taking advantage of a pair of walks to Kristina Deal and Maddie Aylesbury to start off. With runners at first and second and no outs the Pack would use their speed as both Deal and Aylesbury would complete the double steal.
Deal would score on an error by the catcher Jordan Leon and Aylesbury after advancing to third on the error would come into score on a sacrifice fly by Katy Spargo.
West Hills would add another run in the bottom of the second inning courtesy of a double by Deal to center field bringing home Addi Vela to make it 3-0. They would add another run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Spargo raced home on a wild pitch to give them a 4-0 lead.
Grossmont finally would get on the board in the top of the fourth inning when Skyler Glover with two outs singled to center field to bring home Madison Buschto make it 4-1.
However, the Pack would answer in the bottom of the fifth inning on a fielder’s choice by Samiya Wright that would allow Spargo to score to give them a 5-1 lead.
Ava Goodman who drew the start for the Pack would pick up the win. She would toss seven innings allowing one run on three hits while walking one and striking out six.
Her counterpart Saraya Roope for Grossmont took the loss. On the day she went six innings allowing five runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out two.
Grossmont losers of two in a row fall to 10-12-2 overall and 6-2 in league play.
West Hills sees their winning streak move to four in a row and their overall record moves to 17-9-1 and 8-0 in league play.
Grossmont and West Hills will now wait and see where they will be seeded in their respective divisions for the San Diego CIF playoffs. Seeding will be done and brackets will be announced on Saturday sometime.
GAME NOTES: With the win the West Hills Wolf Pack clinched the Grossmont Valley League Crown outright to win their third league title in a row. It is the second straight under head coach Lauren Morizi. With the 8-0 record the Pack have now won 10 league games in a row dating back to the final two league games last season.
