SAN CARLOS – Patrick Henry junior pitcher Cody Cappelletti fired a complete game with 13 strikeouts in a no-hitter against visiting Steele Canyon in Monday’s (Mar. 18) 2-0 triumph.
Cappelletti was listed facing just 22 batters — just one short of a perfect game — but the boxscore fails to report a walk, error or any other play to allow any Cougars base-runner (maybe a dropped third strike).
The Patriots (7-2 overall) posted two runs in the third inning to top SteeleCa nyon (4-5).
Senior catcher Jack Giordano drove in one of the PHHS runs; the other came on an error.
Granite Hills 4, Montgomery 2 – Trailing 2-1 after the first ining, the Granite Hills Eagles finally broke through with three runs in the sixth to down the Montgomery Aztecs at Otay Mesa in the opening of a new tournaent on Monday (Mar. 18).
The victory was the fifth straight for the Eagles. Granite Hills (7-1 overall) is off to its best start in a decade, when they dropped the 2013 season opener before rolling off nine straight triumphs.
Noah Figuered delivered a base-loaded, two-run single in the decisive sixth. The other Eagles RBI came from Kade Gaeir and Parker Vance.
Granite Hills pitcher Brenden Lewis struck out seven Aztecs battters without a walk in a complete-game effort/
Lewis lowered his ERA to 1.20 in his third win of the season.
The game was the fifth of six straight by the Aztecs (4-4 overall) against the Grossmont Conference. They are 2-3 during the stretch.
