2024 GROSSMONT COLLEGE MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

ECS staff report

KEARNY MESA — Men’s volleyball will again field a group f 16 schools in California — all n the South Region — but the early rankings seem to be scwered.

With 11 teams listed among the CCCAA Top 10 — there is a tie for 10th place — Grossmont College is no where to befound, yet the Griffins are one of three remaining schools still undefeated entering the school’s first local match of the season.

Grossmont will meet 8th-ranked Santa Monica is a strange 10 a.m. at San Diego Mesa College. At the same time, the host Olympians will entertain 7th-ranked Moorpark s the gym floor will be split in half.

The second match of the “Mesa College uad” will be against Moorpark at 2 p.m.; Mesa meets Santa Monica.

Mesa and San Diego Miramr are tie for fourth place in the official state coaches poll… but where are the undefeated Griffins?

Grossmont has already taken down No. 9 Santiago Canyon College in a 3-set sweep on the road in Orange during easrly January. A week later n the opening weekend of February, the G-House then visited Woodland Hills to tackle host L.A. Pierce College in another3-set sweep.

That leaves Grossmont (2-0 overall) as one of only three yeams with unblemished records — both Moorpark and defending state champion Long Beach (both 3-0) are the others.

If Grossmont head coach Brooke Callahan has any results similar to the Grossmont women — they finished third inthe state while ranking No. 1 in California for most pof the season — they shoould compete for another PCAC championship.
