2000-24 EAST COUNTY SPORTS
Today, Feb.1, 2024, is the anniversary of East County Sports.com
When The Daily Californian newspaper (1892-2000) folded with its final newspaper on Jan. 31, 2000, the sports staff immediately had East County Sports.com ready for the next day.
A trio of writers, headed by long-time sports editor Bill Dicks, along with website owner Ramon Scott, plus writer Nick Pellegrino, continued to cover Grossmont Conference and other sports in the metro East County portion of San Diego County.
Dickens passed away in 2017, so his wife, Wanda, retired.. Scott now lives out of state Pellegrino has come and gone many times, especially after a national magazine he used to write and edit for folded in 2018.
The site has been honored for its coverage, including a 2005 Community Service Award from the San Diego Fair Association for our work in the community.
Today, as we commence our 25th year of coverage, we hope the community will continue to support this website. Donations are always welcome.
