SACRAMENTO – Two liberos were this week’s CCCWVCA State Players of the Week for week11 in Grossmont College’s Avery Banaag and Santa Rosa’s Daya Mosqueda.
Banaag, a 5-foot-3 freshman from Eastlake High, made 20 digs in the Griffins’ Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title-clinching sweep of San Diego Mesa.
Banaag averages 3.93 digs per set and leads the PCAC in digs and was a game-changer in helping 3rd-rated Griffins — No. 1 in the Southland — win a difficult match Mesa, which is ranked fourth in the state (2nd in SoCal).
Mosqueda, a 5-4 sophomore out of Windsor High, is third in the state in overall digs with 467 and her 5.37 average per set is fifth among the leaders.
Earlier this season in Week 5, Grossmont outside hitter Kate Bezer was also named the California state Player of the Week while also receiving the same honor from the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.
