2023-24 GROSSMONT COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL
ECS staff report
FLETCHER HILLS — Cypress College, which once featured former NBA champion Swen Nater (UCLA/San Diego Clippers), visited San Diego County to again dominate the boards, overwhelming hist Grossmont College, 75-54, in the teams’ season opener on Wednesday (Nov. 1). BOXSCORE
The Chargers (1-0 overall) grabbed 10 more rebounds than the Griffins (0-1), most on the offensive boards for easy putback baskets.
A balanced scoring effort saw Allen Wright lead Cypress with 17 points. Wright was followed by James Christian III (16), Mar Onyejekwek (15) and Gabe Navarro (14).
The G-House was paced by Amari Leflore’s 12 points, but every member of the Griffins played and scored in the pre-conference, development contest.
Speaking of development, foul shooting definitively haunted Grossmont, shooting a mere 30 percent (25-for-50) at the foul line.
Grossmont returns to action at the Gene Victor Memorial Tournament at Mt. San Antonio College (located next door to Cal Poly Pomona). The Griffins’ first-round opponent will be Victor Valley College (11-17 last season) of Victorville.
