STEELE CANYON 49, WEST HILLS 7
JAMUL — Steele Canyon senior running back Johnathan Sablan rushed for 174 yards and a touchdown, while the Cougars’ defense limited West Hills to less than 100 yards in total offense, allowing the Cougars to capture a rare Saturday home game by defeating the Wolf Pack, 49-7, in Grossmont Hills League action.
Sablan now owns 1,307 yards on the ground this season. Sablan should remain the GHL rushing leader pending the results by Helix back Kevin Allen III, who has 941 yards entering Friday’s contest at Granite Hills.
Allen registered five TDs — all in the second half or overtime — against the Eagles.
Meanwhile, junior quarterback Joshua Herber only completed three passes, but he caught the Pack napping twice on TD tosses to sophomore Nico Jara and senior Josiah Wilson.
In addition, Andres Milton recorded one of two interceptions by the Cougars.
Down 42-0, West Hills scoring the fourth quarter on a TD rush by Nate Stevens.
Steele Canyon 5-4 overall, 2-2 GHL) is now tied for third place with Grossmont. West Hills (1-3 GHL) also is 5-4 on the season.
The Cougars cap the regular season next Friday at(Oct. 27) Helix. West Hills finishes in a battle for the Mayor’s Trophy at home to crosstown rival Santana.
