KENNESAW, Ga. — Fueled by an early flying try by Tomas Aoake — WATCH — the San Diego Legion mounted a huge first-half lead to take down Rugby Atlanta, 35-10, Saturday (Mar. 18) at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
With Atlanta over-playing the center of the field, San Diego made three quick passes to the outside, with Aoake taking the ball near the 5-meter line and diving into the end zone for the try on the touch down in the game’s opening minute.
San Diego posted near-identical scores in each half, holding the advantage 18-5 and 17-5 against Atlanta, which played in the 2022 Eastern Conference final against Rugby New York.
The Legion has a bye next week. On April 2, they battle at Seattle for the division lead, then come home April 9 to meet Old Glory D.C. rugby.
With the victory, the Legion (4-1 overall, 21 points) regains first place in the MLR West Division, four points better than the Seattle Seawolves.
