Givens goes ‘Mental’ to Weber State

OGDEN, Utah. — Major Givens, the East County single-game record-holder with 454 rushing yards, signed his National Letter of Intent Wednesday (Dec. 21) to play collegiate football with Weber State University. Givens is one of four recruits penned by the Wildcats.
Givens was joined along with Trevor Beck, Richie Munoz and Will Way to play for new football head coach Mickey Mental, who gained the job 24 hours earlier.
Playing for Steele Canyon, Givens landmark total of 454 yards — which is also a Grossmont Conference mark — included touchdown runs of 2, 70 and 69 yards, capping the regular season with a 31-10 road victory against Grossmont.
For his effort this season, which featured 1,754 rushing yards and 14 TDs, including outings of three TDs three times, coming against San Marcos, Temecula-Heritage and Grossmont.
The rushing yardage total is also a school record, edging the 2010 mark by Tyrone Sauls (1,737).
Givens is fully expected to be named to the 2022 All-East County Football Team, which will be released next week.
His career totals in three varsity seasons check-in at 3,982 rushing yards and 33 TDs.
Givens originally was headed to Montana State but rescinded his commitment late in the season.
Wild for Weber
For Weber State, all four players are on the offensive side of the ball as the Wildcats added Givens, a running back, a quarterback and a pair of offensive linemen,
The Wildcats added offensive lineman Trevor Beck out of Star, Idaho. Beck is the younger brother of current Wildcat linebacker Garrett Beck. WSU also added Will Way, an offensive lineman from Tucson, Ariz.
Quarterback Richie Munoz signed from Weber State out of Charter Oaks High School in West Covina, California.
The next signing day will be February 1, 2023.
