El Capitan 85, Liberty Charter 40
LAKESIDE – From start to finish, the home team El Capitan Vaqueros made it look easy as they went on to easily defeat the visiting Liberty Charter Lions by a score of 85-40 on Monday (11-21-22) evening.
The Vaqueros early on would go back and forth in the first quarter with the Lions but they would eventually push away as they outscored Liberty charger 8-0 to finish things out and lead 22-12.
Both Micah Odell and Brandt Barker who knocked down a pair of threes paced the Vaqueros with six points in the quarter as they would hold the Lions scoreless for the final couple of minutes in the quarter.
Defensively the Vaqueros would continue to barrage the Lions as they would hold them scoreless until 5:50 remaining in the half. However, by the time Liberty Charter scored their first points in the second quarter, the Vaqueros would push their lead to 34-12. El Capitan would use a 22-0 run to really put the contest away.
Scoring wise the Vaqueros would be led by Odell who scored 25 of his 27 points in the first half and also Chance LaChappa who punched in 14 points on the night.
El Capitan would push their lead even further which would allow them to rotate players in and out and also trigger the running clock mercy rule to start the fourth quarter.
On the night the Vaqueros would knock down seven shots from behind the arc and outscore the Lions by a score of 26-18 in the second half.
With the win, the Vaqueros improve their record to 3-0 on the season and will next take on Hilltop who is one of the favorites if not the favorite to take the Division IV crown this season. That contest is slated for a t PM tipoff on Tuesday, November 29th in Lakeside.
West Hills 62, Mabel O’Farrell Charter 16
SANTEE – It was all Wolf Pack as the Pack went into total lockdown from start to finish in their convincing victory over the Falcons on Tuesday evening.
West Hills established their dominance in the second thru the fourth quarter of play as they completely shut down the Falcons on offense with constant contests of shots as well as a lot of ball pressure that led to them holding the Falcons to only eight total points after the first quarter.
Leading the charge for the Pack scoring-wise was Zeid Salem who led the way with 16 points while Vince Hillman chipped in 11 points all coming in the second half.
It was an all-around great effort by the Pack against the Falcons and it definitely didn’t go unnoticed.
“I was very pleased with our effort tonight and we continue to grow each game,” West Hills head coach Tim Barry said. “We take on Division I Orange Glen on Wednesday (Nov. 22) and that will be a big step for us.”
Orange Glen also remained undefeated as they beat the Christian Patriots 60-49 on Monday evening.
Tipoff for the contest between Orange Glen and West Hills is slated for a 3 PM start.
