DEL SUR (5-24-22) – Five early runs scored by the Westview Wolverines were all they needed to down the Christian Patriots, 5-3, in a CIFSDS Division 3 elimination contest on Tuesday.
Christian (20-13 overall),who was the seventh seed, would strike first as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning.
A leadoff triple by Tyler Krystek followed by another triple by Kate Manes would make it 1-0, the next batter Allyson Moody would drive her in on a bunt base hit and Lucy Sherburne would lay down a sacrifice bunt which led to Moody coming in and scoring for the third run.
The Patriots would have another opportunity to push a run across in the top of the third inning when Rachel Stephens with two outs tripled to right field but unfortunately, she would be left stranded.
An error by the Patriots in the bottom of the inning would lead to the first run for the Wolverines which was followed by a game-tying two-run single followed by a run-scoring error and finally a base hit that scored another run.
When it was all said and done the Wolverines now led 5-3.
Unfortunately, the Patriots could only muster a single hit the rest of the way which was a base hit in the top of the seventh inning by Giselle Colmenero.
Moody would be garnered with the loss despite striking out six on the day as she allowed five runs of which two were earned on eight hits over six innings of work.
Westview (17-11) advances to Thursday’s semifinal to be played at the Poway SportsPlex USA.

Among the home runs, the first was a solo shot, then she added a grand slam, driving in all five runs for Mount Miguel (12-8 overall).
Maranatha Christian (14-5) moved on to the annual Thursday double-0header phase of the tournament. Every team which come sout of Thursday gains a berth in the championship round. For the Eagles, they must defeat Calipatri, then the loser of the winners bracket final between third-seed Fallbrook and No. 1 Foothills Christian.
