LINDA VISTA — Christian High senior Shane Bailey proved to be a prime time performer.
Playing under the lights of the Francis Parker High baseball diamond, Bailey struck out nine Lancers batters to claim a 3-0 blanking over the top seed in Division II.
The shutout was the eighth of the season for Christian, which is a 21st century record, and is believed to be a school record, too.
The Patriots registered all of their runs in the fourth inning. Included was an RBI double from sophomore Ashton McCurty, then a 2-run single by junior Nathan Cena.
Scoring were Hunter Kaul, Bailey and McCurty.
By scattering six hits, Bailey pushed the 8th-seeded Patriots into the winners bracket semifinals. On Friday, they will travel to meet 4th-seeded Canyon Crest after the Ravens survived an upset buf by La Jolla Country Day, 3-2 in eight innings.
The Christian-Canyon Crest contest will start early at 3 p.m. because of heavy traffic condsitions in the State Route 56 corridor.
