CORONADO (4-26-22) – Early runs and only being limited to a single hit on the day did the Christian Patriots no favors as the Coronado Islanders came away with a 3-0 victory in City League action on Tuesday afternoon.
Coming into the game on Tuesday the Patriots had won three in a row to set up the showdown for first place but the Islanders would take advantage of their opportunities including Madison Cannon and Susanna Pate both scoring on wild pitches to give the Islanders a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
They would score their other run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a sacrifice bunt that would score Lana Allari-Smith.
Allyson Moody would take the loss for the Patriots, she would allow three runs on three hits over six innings of work in which she walked 11 and struck out four.
For the Islanders, Anneliese Wong picked up the win as she only allowed one hit over five innings of work in which she walked one and struck out two.
The only hit of the day by the Patriots came in the top of the fifth inning on a single by Hannah Mroz.
The loss by the Patriots drops them to 15-9 and 4-1 in league play while the Islanders take sole possession of first place as they improve to 10-10 and 5-0 in league play.
