SANTEE (4-14-22) – Despite a fifth inning push in which they scored three runs the Santana Sultans would go on to defeat the West Hills Wolf Pack 9-3 in the annual City Championship on Thursday afternoon.
An RBI double by Jordyn Beatty in the bottom of the first would give the Sultans a 1-0 lead early on.
With back-to-back doubles by Haley Oceguera and McKenna Miller followed by a two-run single by Hailey Phillips the Sultans would lead 3-0, they would extend their lead even further as Samantha Sullivan singled in Phillips to make it 4-0.
The Sultans would add another run in the bottom of the third inning courtesy of an RBI single by Phillips.
But the Wolf Pack wouldn’t go down as Naomi Kai would blast a three-run home run over the left-field fence in the top of the fifth inning to pull within 5-3. Scoring on the home run by Kai were Alyssa Thornton who drew a walk and Lily Youngdale who led off the inning with a base hit.
But the Sultans would answer right back as Taylinn Warren drove in both Miller and Sullivan to extend the lead to 7-3. They would go on to add a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth on a ground out and an error to make it 9-3.
Also, for the Pack Samiya Write had three hits, Marina Morales and Callia Rooks each had a pair of hits.
The Sultans with the win have now won eight straight games against their city rivals dating back to March of 2017 when West Hills beat the Sultans by a score of 5-3.
