SANTEE -— Helix pitching ace Sophia Ramuno spun her second complete game shutout in a row, stopping Santana on a 3-hitter, 5-0, in Grossmont Hills League action on Wednesday. With the victory, the Highlanders snap a three-way tie for first place with idle El Capitan and Granite Hills.
Ramuno struck out 10 Sultans batters for Helix (15-4 overall, 2-0 GHL). She also doubles and tallied the game’s opening run.The Sultans main threat came in the fourth inning, loading the bases with a single by left fielder Madison Jordan and a pair of walks. However, Ramuno and the Scotties defense worked through the danger with no damage done
Helix initially hit the scoreboard in the second. Following Ramuno’s lead double, courtesy runner Elaine Mohammad advanced to third base on a ground out, then came home on an infield single off of the bat of right fielder Danika Munoz.
In the fourth, Munoz tallied another RBI, driving in third baseman Amber Young with a double into the right center gap. But the real fireworks came up next.
Scotties catcher Ivy Greene lifted a 1-0 pitch over the scoreboard in left center for a three-run home run to cap the scoring — the first round-tripper of the junior’s varsity career.
Santana pitcher Ashtyn Niemeic was saddled with the loss, having been charged with all five runs on the day. Aurelia Dawson managed 3.2 scoreless innings in relief. The Sultans fell to 7-9 (0-2 GHL).
