SPRING VALLEY —An infield error allowed El Capitan pinch-runner Mason Parr to race home with the go-ahead run in the ninth inning, allowing the Vaqueros to steal a ballgame from Monte Vista, 3-2, in non-league action on Thursday (Apr. 7),

The run capped a Vaqueros rally from a 2-0 deficit.

Parr was inserted after Emilio Flores accepted a one-out walk.Then with two outs, Brody McAuliffe lined a basehit to right field. sending Pass to third. But when the relay throw sailed past the bag on an errant throw, Parr finished off his tap-in birdie and take the lead by one stroke.

Monte Vista led early with single runs in the first and second.

Consecutive basehit by Tyler Lemen, Isaiah Hilke and Gavin Daley made it 1-0.

An inning later, Niko Heidt walked to lead off. He was bunted along by Evan Smart, then scored on a two-out single from Lemen.

However, Vaqueros pitcher Cole Winsor allowed just one other hits over his five innings. McAuliffe went the final four frames, throwing shutout ball to garner the victory in relief.

Monte Vista starter David Rodriguez also went five franes, but both El Cap runs in the fifth were unearned.

 

Valhalla 12, ECVHS 2

EL CAJON — The top five batters for the Valhalla Norsemen combined for eight RBI in taking a 12-2 decision over host El Cajon Valley in Thursday’s (Apr. 7) non=league contest between GVL ballclubs.

Two of the RBI went to Mace Wheeler and David Gordon, as Valhalla collected 14 hits.

The Braves first four batters of the fifth innings all reached base to post the host’s two runs.

Rikki Ortiz lined a lead double to left field, ending the shutout upon scoring on basehit b Jaheim Mendenhall.

Alvaro Alvarado followed with a walk, then Chris Cosio also posted an RBI single.

For Valhalla (5-11 overall), Colin Scribner pitched five innings for the win, striking out five batters from ECVHS (2-6-1)

 

Liberty Charter 9, Bayfront Charter 2

LEMON GROVE — Traiing 2-1 over the majority of the afternoon, Liberty Charter woke up with four runs inthe fouth inning, then three more in the fifth, sinking the Bayfront Charter Sharks of Chula Vista, 9-2, in Thursday’s (Apr. 7) non-league contest.

A trio of Lions freshmen — Andruw Godinez, Alex Castellano and Drake Keehl — all knocked in two runs to spark a 9-hit attack.

Brody Harris, another frosh, also had two hits — both triples, to equal the school record.

Meanwhile, sophomore Axon Adrain stole three bases for Liberty Charter (7-5 overall), the winners of four in-a-row. Bayfront sank to 5-2 after opening the season with five straight victories.
