Hillers: Centurions placed behind 8-ball

2022 EAST COUNTY PREP SOFTBALL

FLETCHER HILLS (4-6-22) – Trailing late in the contest, the Grossmont Foothillers used an eight-run fifth inning to take the lead and eventually beat the Olympian Eagles 12-8 in non-league action on Wednesday afternoon.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning the Hillers would go on to tie the game when Jade Daley doubled in Natalie Emery which was followed up with a double by Katelynne Parent that scored Daley to give them a 2-1 lead.
Olympian would answer with three runs in the top of the third inning to retake the lead 4-2 courtesy of multiple base hits.
They would tack on another pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead even further by a score of 6-2.
Knowing they were running out of opportunities the Foothillers in the bottom of the inning all of a sudden really started clicking and would go on to retake the lead 10-6.
Leading the charge for the Hillers was Emery who led off with a walk, she would come around to score when with one out Daley roped a double to center field, Parent followed by driving in Daley and would advance to second on a passed ball. Still only one out Eliana Vasquez would advance Parent to third when she singled, she would be replaced on the bases with Natalie Tavarez.
Trailing 6-4 and both Parent and Vasquez on the bases the next batter Jenna Ennis would drive in Parent and advance Tavarez with a double to center field, the next batter Iryana Oliver would go on to give the Hillers the lead as she doubled in both Tavarez and Ennis.
Now leading 7-6 the Hillers were not done in the inning as Caitlyn Potts would drive in both Isabel Cervantes who came in for Oliver as a courtesy runner and Na’Khia Lee who came into pinch run for Alison Murphy with a double to center field.
Emery would follow with a base hit that brought in Potts to give the Foothillers a 10-6 lead.
The Foothillers were not done scoring runs as they would score another pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead even further 12-6.
Parent would double in Daley and Tavarez would knock in Parent on a ground ball out.
Vasquez who came into pitch in relief of Dezirae Miller would despite giving up a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning finish things out to procure the victory for the Hillers.
Miller would get the victory for the Hillers as she allowed six runs on ten hits over five innings in which she struck out three.
