Norsemen outlast Foothillers, 11-8

2022 EAST COUNTY PREP SOFTBALL

FLETCHER HILLS (3-23-22) – In quite the slug-fest, the visiting Valhalla Norsemen were able to outlast the Grossmont Foothillers, 11-8, in non-league action on Wednesday afternoon.
Both teams combined for 33 hits on the day with the Norsemen collecting 18 and the Hillers with 15 for the game.
Valhalla started the scoring in the top of the first inning when Maryn Jordan drove in Avery Voth and later Naomi Villava drove in Jordan to make it 2-0.
Jordan again would do more damage in the top of the second inning when she singled in Voth to give them a 3-0 lead and a couple of batters later McKayla Fish blasted a grand slam over the center-field fence that brought home Bella Moscoso, Jordan, and Cadyn Ruffer.
Trailing 7-0 the Foothillers knew they needed to do something and in the bottom of the inning, they would score a pair of runs to make it 7-2.
The first run came when Isabel Cervantes hit a ball that was misplayed allowing Katelynn Parent to come in to score and Na’Khia Lee followed with a ground ball out that allowed Eliana Vasquez to score.
Another run in the bottom of the fourth inning for the Hillers came when Jade Daley drove in Lee to make it 7-3.
Trailing 8-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning the Foothillers as they used the momentum to pull within 8-6.
Vasquez would drive in Lauren Becker and Lee would drive in Parent which was followed by Natalie Emery driving in Caitlyn Potts.
However, Valhalla answered with a run in the top of the sixth inning when Fish knocked in Jordan on a ground ball out to make it 9-6.
Faith Sandoval for the Hillers would drive in a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 9-7.
Valhalla though would score another pair of runs in the top of the seventh thanks to RBI singles by Voth and Jordan.
The Foothillers unfortunately could only score a single run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jade Daley doubled in Lee.
Ramona 8, Steele Canyon 5
RANCHO SAN DIEGO (3-23-22) – The visiting Ramona Bulldogs down to their final at-bats take advantage of their opportunities to pull out a come from behind 8-5 victory over Steele Canyon on Thursday afternoon in Falcon Fiesta tournament action.
Trailing 1-0 the Cougars would tie things up in the bottom of the first inning behind a Jazmin Williams sacrifice fly that allowed Sa’Ni Marshall to tag up and race home for the run.
Steele Canyon would take the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Laryza Serrano drove in Mariah Mata, she would come into score on a sacrifice fly and Alena Moya would score on a passed ball to make it 4-1.
Ramona would later tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the fourth on a base hit followed by taking advantage of an error by the Cougars.
But the Cougars would again retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Isabella Smith sacrificed a perfect laid ball that would allow Williams to race into score to make it 5-4.
Multiple hits and an error would lead to Ramona retaking the lead for good in the top of the seventh inning and despite a base hit by Williams in the bottom of the seventh the Bulldogs would retire the next three batters to end the contest.
