El Cajon (3-15-22) – A late lead change in the favor of the Christian Patriots courtesy of an Allyson Moody (3-4, 3R, RBI, 2B, SB) RBI single in the eighth inning procured the victory on Tuesday afternoon.
Early runs scored by Christian would really jolt their way thanks to a leadoff home run by Kate Manes (1-4, R, RBI, SB, HR), later a two-out RBI single by Lucy Sherburne (2-2, R, 3 RBI, 2 SB) which was followed by an RBI single by Tyler Krystek (1-3, 3 RBI) to give them a 3-0 lead.
Leading 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning the Patriots went back to business thanks to Rachel Stephens who drove in Ashley Wood (1-3, 3R, 3 SB), a couple of batters later Moody would score when Tyler Krystek hit a ground ball out and later Chloe Hessom (1-3, RBI) would drive in Stephens to extend the lead even further to 6-2.
Mira Mesa wouldn’t go away as they pushed across three runs in the top of the fourth inning to pull within 6-5.
However, the Patriots would answer as they took advantage of an error by the Marauders allowing Wood to come into score and Stephens would score also in the inning to make it 8-5.
Mira Mesa would tie the game in the fifth inning thanks to a three-run home run.
Leading 9-8 thanks to a base hit by Moody the Patriots added more when Sherburne drove in Moody and Stephens scored on a sacrifice fly by Krystek which made it 11-8.
The Marauders weren’t done as they would pull within 11-10 on a two-run home run but that would be the closest they would get.
With the win the Patriots even their record at 5-5.
Rancho Bernardo 9, Patrick Henry 1
Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the Patrick Henry Patriots day on Tuesday afternoon as they could only muster four hits on the day against the Rancho Bernardo Broncos in non-league action.
For the Patriots, Savannah Sutton would drive in the lone run in the top of the third inning when she doubled in Malia Savage who had a pair of hits including a double in the contest. The only other hit came courtesy of Jenel Mallari.
