EL CAJON —- Grossmont and Cuyamaca College posted near identical results following the opening week of Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play last week.
Although both dropped their respective PCAC openers, both bounced back with fine performances in Game No. 2, each concluding with a 4-point decision. The only difference: Grossmont won by four points, while Cuyacamaca fell by the identical margin.
The Griffins finished the week at 1-1 by stopping visiting Imperial Valley, 71-67.
Vincent Warren paced the G-House with 22 points while also keying the defense with three steals. He also put on quite a jam show with some great slams.
The Arabs moved to within two points in the final seconds, but Samuel Stewart IV calmly drained two foul shots with three seconds remaining to clinch the triumph.
Meanwhile, the Coyotes dropped a 65-61 decision to MiraCosta in Oceanside.
Anthony McManus led ‘Maca with 18 points, while Ray King added 17. However, Cuyamaca committed four more turnovers than the Spartans, which shot 50 percent to register the margin of difference.
On Wednesday, Grossmont hosts L.A. Harbor at 5 p.m. Meanwhile, the Coyotes host the annual Cuyamaca Classic on Dec. 28-30.
