EastCountySports.com staff report
SANTEE – The West Hills Wolf Pack took care of business with great defense and some timely baskets in a 49-38 victory over High Tech Chula Vista on Saturday in a tournament matchup.
As the tempo ramped up, the Wolf Pack kept extending the lead.
After leading by just 8-6 after one quarter, West Hills led 18-11 at halftime.
The key fourth quarter saw West Hills outscore the Bruins (1-9), 19-14, as Jake Partington made a three-pointer and Jake Kelly had six points, including four free throws. Both players finished with 12 points for the contest.
The Pack’s Max Conaway was also a big factor down the stretch with six points, including a pair of free throws, on the way to 11 points total.
Zeid Salem nailed a three in the second quarter for WHHS.
“We got back a couple of players today and we looked like a team on offense that has not worked together for a while,” West Hills head coach Tim Barry said. “I’m extremely pleased with this group’s defense and effort, but to compete in the Grossmont Hills League we are going to need to become more efficient offensively.”
West Hills improved to 7-3.
“We have four more games prior to starting League on Jan. 7 versus Grossmont and we have a lot of work to do, but very proud of these boys up to this point,” Barry added.
