BORREGO SPRINGS 25, MOUNTAIN EMPIRE 12 – The RedHawks led 8-7 after the first quarter but were held scoreless in the second quarter and eventually lost for the second time in as many starts against the Rams, who won 16-4 back on Nov. 19.
Senior Caylee Hodson scored four points for the RedHawks, as did teammate Aisha Acevedo, a sophomore.
Sophomore Mariana Ibarra had a basket for the RedHawks. Alyssia Pierce, a sophomore, also scored a basket.
“The girls played as a full team and continued to improve all-around,” Mountain Empire head coach Alex Otero said.
EL CAJON VALLEY 45, SOUTHWEST (SD) 37 – The El Cajon Valley Braves continue to impress early on.
The Braves improved to 4-3 with the victory over the Raiders.
El Cajon Valley led 12-6 after the first quarter, however, the Raiders cut the gap to 23-22 at halftime.
The game remained close through the third but ECV won it on the strength of a 10-4 advantage in the fourth quarter.
MIRA MESA 50, EL CAPITAN 44 – The Marauders won over the Vaqueros.
El Capitan fell to 2-6.
MISSION BAY 43, FOOTHILLS CHRISTIAN 4 – The Knights were overwhelmed by the Buccaneers in Foothills’ season-opener.
The Knights battled in the second quarter matching a pair of baskets by the Bucs as the teams were even over the second eight minutes of the game.
