EL CAPITAN 50, WEST HILLS 44 –– The Vaqueros pulled off an upset at home but played like the favored team against the Wolf Pack.
El Capitan scored the first seven points of the game and built a 17-10 lead after one quarter.
However, the Wolf Pack came back to take a 25-24 lead at halftime.
The third quarter was similar to the opening period, as El Cap went on to outscore West Hills, 16-8, then held off the Pack’s rally try.
Daisean Desinor scored 16 points on 6-of-13 from the field, grabbed four rebounds, made three steals, and handed out a pair of assists for the Vaqueros.
Micah Odell scored 15 points on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting night and grabbed eight rebounds for El Capitan.
The Vaqueros’ Trevor Moklestad finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.
El Capitan will face Maranatha Christian at home on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
The Vaqueros led 44-41 in the fourth quarter when Odell had a key field goal.
Desinor made four free throws in the final three-plus minutes of the game to help the victory.
Jayden Johnson, of El Cap, also made a key field goal in the fourth.
El Capitan improved to 3-2 on the season, while the Wolf Pack fell to 4-2.
PATRICK HENRY 42, GROSSMONT 40 – Senior center Michael Rayner scored on a layup as time expired for the victory.
Despite the 40-point output, the Foothillers had three players score in double figures – Sergio Franso (12), Elijah Williams (11), and Aaron Velasco (11).
Velasco made a pair of three-pointers in the contest.
The score was tied 31-all after three quarters.
Patrick Henry led 26-22 at halftime after starting the period on a 9-2 run to take a 23-14 lead.
Grossmont scored the final five points of the first half.
GRANITE HILLS 64, SANTANA 35 – The Eagles won the matchup between conference foes, as Granite Hills took an 11-5 lead after one period, then extended the lead to 32-16 by halftime.
Granite Hills improved to 2-0, while the Sultans fell to 0-4.
MONTE VISTA 68, SAN PASQUAL 52 – Monte Vista improved to 4-1 with the win over the Golden Eagles (1-3).
POWAY 70, CHRISTIAN 50 – The Titans looked solid in pulling away from the Patriots early in the contest on Monday evening in Poway.
It was the first win of the season for the Titans in three starts, while the Patriots fell to 0-2.
Poway led 21-13 after the first period and extended the lead to 40-26 at halftime.
CLAIREMONT 46, EL CAJON VALLEY 39 – The Chieftains held off the Braves despite a 19-8 advantage for El Cajon Valley in the fourth quarter.
Clairemont led 25-15 at halftime. It was the season-opener for the Chieftains.
The Braves fell to 2-3 overall.
