MONTE VISTA 41, EL CAJON VALLEY 34 – The Monarchs and Braves have had a great series going over the last few years and Wednesday’s tournament matchup was no exception.
It didn’t appear that way early as the Monarchs led 25-10 at halftime but the Braves were the ones roaring back into the game in the second half.
The Monarchs held on to finish second at the tournament.
Micayaah Flournoy scored 23 points to lead Monte Vista. She made three three-pointers in the game.
Angelina De Leon added eight points for the Monarchs.
“We knew we had to step up because both Meadow (Delino) and Sam (Gonzalez) were out,” De Leon said. “I think everyone stepped up, especially Micayaah and Saniya (Raley). In the second half, we were all tired, but we pulled through.”
Ruth Taulanga led the Braves with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots, while teammate Aniah Deloatch added 11 points, which included a pair of threes. Deloatch also grabbed seven boards and recorded three steals.
Monte Vista improved to 3-1, while the Braves fell to 2-2.
GRANITE HILLS 36, SAN YSIDRO 30 – The Eagles outlasted the Cougars despite 20 points from San Ysidro’s Liliana Maldonado. Granite Hills improved to 2-2.
