ANAHEIM – Helix High junior Quincy Herron and the Herron family had quite a night despite the Highlanders’ 49-7 loss to the nation’s eighth-ranked team.
After Herron was surprised with the arrival of his mom from Japan following a near two-year deployment, Herron scored on a 78- yard touchdown reception to draw the Highlanders to within 21-7 against the powerful Friars.

Servite just plain lost sight of Herron, who easily slipped into the secondary to was wide open for the pass from quarterback Ryland Jessee.

Xavier Van caught five passes for 33 yards for the Highlanders.
Jessee was 13-of-17 for 126 yards.
Sophomore Daniel Larsina had a sack for the Scotties.
The Highlanders ran into a great team with a highly-rated signal-caller in Noah Fifita, a three-star prospect headed for the University of Arizona.
Fifita threw three touchdowns in the first quarter to four-star receiver Tetairoa McMillan, who is headed to the University of Oregon.
Fifita passed for 317 yards and four touchdowns, while McMillan caught seven passes for 183 yards. Fifita also rushed for a score.

SPRING VALLEY – THe Cougars pounded out three touchdowns against the county’s top-rated team, although the Dons are second in the local media poll behind undefeated Carlsbad.
Junior Major Givens turned a pass from quarterback Eric King into a 43-yard touchdown in the second quarter as the Cougars trailed just 21-7.
Jacob Manzo, a quarterback, scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter for Steele Canyon (1-5), including a 36-yard scoring run.
Manzo had 120 yards of total offense.
Davis Langfeldt had an interception for the Cougars.
Running back Lucky Sutton used skill and a mighty offensive line to score three touchdowns for the Dons.
The Cougars were in reasonable proximity of the Dons at halftime, trailing 28-7.
Steele Canyon travels to face St. Francis (3-1), of La Canada, this Friday.
