VISTA – The San Carlos Little League All-Stars won their first game at the 2021 Little League Baseball Southern California Section 6 championships on Saturday afternoon, 8-7, over 4S Ranch behind a couple of big home runs over the fence at Vista Little League.
Powerful Nico Gigante homered again for the green and gold, a three-run shot, and Lucas Ornelas had a two-run shot for SC, as the men passed the “swag chain” around.
San Carlos’ Mario Vitale and Jacob Gibb shared the pitching duties in the victory.
The game was played at Section 6 host Vista Little League.
San Carlos Little League has won the Section 6 championship with three consecutive victories in each of its last two trips to the tournament (’18 and ’16).
San Carlos, the District 33 champions, will face Peninsula Little League, which won 6-3 over Oceanside Valley, also on Saturday.
The next contest will be on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Vista Little League.
At the 2021 Southern California Section 7 12U All-Stars tournament at El Centro Little League on Saturday evening, District 41 champion Fletcher Hills crushed Holtville, 14-1, while Eastlake shut out District 66 champ Spring Valley, 12-0 on a combined no-hitter).
On Sunday, Fletcher Hills fell to Eastlake in the winner’s bracket, 5-0, while Spring Valley eliminated Holtville, 10-0 in five innings.
On Monday, Fletcher Hills eliminated Spring Valley with a 14-5 victory in a game that was moved from El Centro to Fletcher Hills Little League.
Fletcher Hills will face Eastlake on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. needing a victory to force a deciding championship game. Eastlake would advance to the Southern California divisional tournament in Fountain Valley (July 24-Aug. 1) with a win.
