2021 SAN DIEGO STARS BASEBALL
LAKESIDE —- West Hills High product Kai Dennis, less than 48 hours after pitching three perfect innings to garner a save, produced seven solid innings as a starter on Saturday (July 3), leading the San Diego Stars summer collegiate baseball team to a 5-3 triumph over the Solana Beach Redbirds in Western Baseball Association action at El Capitan High’s Hostetler Field.
Dennis demonstrated his universality by striking out eight Redbirds batters against just one walk, helping the Stars (8-5 overall) run their winning streak to three games.
Gaining the save was Bailey Roberson, a, El Capitan alum, who shut the door on the Redbirds by allowing just one hit, a two-out single.
While Dennis and Roberson were handling the Redbirds, the Stars’ offense overcame a 2-0 deficit by scoring in each of their final three trips to the plate.
In the sixth, a one-out triple by Kip Famolaro was followed by an RBI double by Chris Lloyd, who later scored on the game-tying run on a passed ball.
Solana re-assumed the lead in the seventh, but it didn’t last long.
Consecutive one-out doubles by Brady Joslyn and Luke Arias knotted the contest at 3-all, Then with two down, Danny Zapeda grounder the ball into left field for what turned out to be the game-winning run.
An inning later, Roberson received an insurance run on an RBI triple by Dallas Seifel, bringing home Kyle Pineda (two-out single).
For the contest, Seidel batted 3-for-5 in the ballgame and 7-for-10 in the doubleheader. In game two, he again tripled and hit a home run, while just a double short in hitting for the cycle.
Solana Beach took the nightcap, 15-13. No names were supplied by the Redbirds staff, so no individual credit could be published.
The Stars return to action Tuesday, traveling to Escondido High to meet the powerful San Diego (North County) Waves, which recently returned from a trip to Alaska.
