2021 SAN DIEGO STARS BASEBALL
From staff and wire reports
LAKESIDE —- The summer collegiate program of the San Diego Stars semipro baseball team received a pleasant surprise when a lengthy road trip slated for Saturday (June 26) will instead be held on their home ballpark at El Capitan High’s Hostetler Field.
The Stars were slated to play the West Coast Clippers of Temecula, who actually play half of their home contests at El Camino High in Oceanside. But when both venues became unavailable, officials from the Western Baseball Association switched the site to East County, although the Stars will still be the visiting side for the 9/7 doubleheader.
The Stars might need the home cookin’. Following five straight victories to open the summer season, they have dropped five straight, including two ballgames earlier this week.
On Wednesday (June 23), the Stars fell in their first-ever meeting with the Solana Beach Redbirds, 8-1, in a game held at Torrey Pines High. The Redbirds tossed a 4-hitter at the Stars, but they did not supply a roster, which doesn’t help their pitchers get attention from scouts since no one knows who pitched.
On Thursday, the Stars rallied from a deep deficit to move to within 9-8 against the San Diego Crush, but the club from Poway closed the contest on a 9-1 run to claim an 18-9 decision.
For the Stars, third baseman Joey Krug homered, matching second baseman Danny Zepeda in 2-for-5 performances.
Right fielder Dallas Seidel batted 2-for-4 with three RBI, while the Stars received doubles from left fielder Brady Joslyn, and catcher Andrew Ritayik,
