2021 SAN DIEGO STARS BASEBALL
ECS staff report
LAKESIDE —- San Diego Stars first baseman Brady Joslyn drove in seven runs in the first game of a doubleheader, as the Stars extended their summer season-opening winning streak to five games before falling in the second game in Saturday’s (June 17) Western Baseball Association action against the North County Gorillas of San Marcos.
The Stars mounted a 12-3 advantage before clearing the bench in the opener en route to a 12-9 decision. However, the Gorillas (also known as the Bulldogs) ended an 8-game losing to the Stars over two seasons with a 5-3 win in the second game, held at Hostetler Field at El Capitan High.
The Stars (5-1 overall, 4-1 WBA) were the visiting team since Palomar College was unavailable, with leadoff batter Dallas Seidel taking a 3-2 pitch out to center field for his third home run of the summer.
Joslyn, the next batter, wasn’t very happy when he was hit by a pitch, a recurring theme with the Gorillas after yielding a home run. So Joslyn did something about it.
In the fourth with the bases loaded, Joslyn cleared the bases with a triple, half of the run in a 6-run rally. Then in the ninth, again with the bases loaded, he did one better by slugging a grand slam.
In the second contest, North County built an early 4-0 cushion before hanging on late to snap their lengthy drought to the Stars, albeit against the San Diego reserves.
One Stars regular was third baseman Joey Krug, who hit his first homer of the summer, a two-run shot to center in the sixth. Ryan Culp also scored.
The Stars travel to Grand Terrace High School in Riverside to face the Colton Nighthawks in a Father’s Day doubleheader. First game starts at noon.
