Dobyns homers, scores 27 for Pack

CLAIREMONT – Double-duty man Kyle Dobyns hit a home run in the afternoon and poured home 27 points at night, leading his team to a second win for West Hills High School in a span of about four or five hours on Tuesday.
The Wolf Pack won the varsity boys basketball game 65-58 over host Clairemont as Dobyns’ moonlighted with his basketball team. Earlier, he helped West Hills beat Valhalla, 6-2, in a Grossmont Hills League baseball game.
Dobyns, a senior, was productive from the outset, scoring 14 points in the first half, as the Wolf Pack had a big second quarter, outscoring Clairemont 21-9 to take a 33-23 lead into halftime.
As Clairemont kept things close, Dobyns was able to finish over strong, along with the assistance of teammate Luke Gibson. The pair combined for 16 points in the fourth quarter.
Dobyns went 7-for-7 from the foul line, including a pair of and-one conversions in the first quarter.
Brendan Green, a senior, added 12 points, including two three-pointers, for the Pack.
Cash Creighton also tickled the twine from three in the third quarter.
The Chieftains hit eight three-pointers to remain in the contest throughout.
“I felt we kept things at a safe score most of the game but then they would hit a three to make me feel a little uncomfortable,” West Hills head coach Tim Barry said.
West Hills will face Valhalla in a Grossmont Hills League basketball game on Friday night.
LIBERTY 71, HIGH TECH CHULA VISTA 42 – The Lions led 19-10 at the end of the first quarter to improve to 4-0 in league play.
HORIZON PREP 57, MOUNTAIN EMPIRE 37 – The RedHawks were led by Dakota Daniels’ 12 points.
