OCEANSIDE – On a day when the majority of the day’s games were rained out the Granite Hills Eagles traveled up North and were able to show their offensive prowess as the bats came alive with an eight-run fourth to pull away from the El Camino Wildcats, 13-3, on a Monday (Apr. 26) afternoon Falcon Fiesta contest.
The Eagles (4-8-1) scored the games first two runs in the top of the second inning as Makenna Hines (2-3, R, RBI) drove in Jenna Haynal (RUN) which was followed by Kiki Sandoval (3-3, 2R, 2 RBI, 2B, SB) driving in N. Estrada (1-3, R).
Another run for the Eagles came in the top of the third inning when Sofia Mujica (1-2, R, RBI, HR) led off with a solo home run, her East County leading seventh of the season to give them a 3-0 lead. The home run by Mujica was also her fourth in the last three games.
Granite was leading 3-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning when Sandoval doubled in Chloe Knepp (2-3, 2R, 2 RBI, 2B) to make it 4-0, the following batter Paige Baird (1-4, 2R) hit a ball that was misplayed allowing Hines to come in and score to make it 5-0, later in the inning with two outs Breanna Diaz (2-4, R, 4 RBI, SB) drove in Sandoval.
Leading 7-0 the Eagles would score a couple more runs courtesy of Knepp who smashed a two-run double scoring both Alexis Bauers (RUN) and Diaz, an error by the Wildcats would lead to both Estrada and Knepp scoring to make it 11-0.
El Camino (3-9) despite trailing wouldn’t be shutout thanks to a three-run blast in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it 11-3.
Despite the small momentum by the Wildcats the Eagles quickly took it back as they would load the bases on three consecutive walks and later Diaz would drive in both Sandoval and Knepp.
Knepp who got the starting nod would go out for the bottom of the fifth and retire the Wildcats in order including striking out the final two batters to end the game.
On the day, Knepp went all five innings in which she only allowed three runs on three hits and struck out four to pick up the win.
With the win, the Eagles have now won two in a row and will travel to Chula Vista to take on Bonita Vista on Thursday in a non-league contest.
