EastCountySports.com staff report
SPRING VALLEY – The Mount Miguel Lady Matadors may have fallen short of the 100-point mark on Thursday evening but that is not the goal.
“Las Matadoras” improved to 6-2 with a 97-9 win over the winless Steele Canyon Cougars (0-3).
In this time of moving forward, no team is likely to take any game for granted. Nor should they.
Every opportunity to take the court has to be taken seriously.
The same can be said for their often overmatched opponents this season.
The Matadors treat every opponent with respect, giving them their best effort.
Results in games like these are not based on the final score but on a possession-by-possession basis.
And that goes for both teams.
Mount Miguel led 54-1 at halftime.
Jennifer Moreno, one of the county’s top players, did not play for the Matadors, who suited just six players.
Danay Williams-Pope scored 18 points for Mount Miguel, while Zanna Hurst and Arantxa Fonseca both scored 16 points.
Jacquee Brown finished with 14 points.
