“Our defense was flying all over the place,” Monte Vista head coach Ron Hamamaoto said. “This group we have of 25 kids has really impressed me and that’s what’s fun about coaching.
“I’m real proud of these guys and if you watch how we keep our defense fresh, we rotate defensive line guys. Seeing these kids develop is the most rewarding thing about my job.”
El Cajon Valley scored in the third quarter.
Clarence Johnson rushed for 84 yards and had 103 yards of total offense. He rushed for the Braves’ touchdown and also led the team with 10 tackles.
Isaac Ochoa forced and recovered a fumble for El Cajon Valley.
“I’m very proud of our effort but at the same time it was a very rough and physical game,” El Cajon Valley head coach Nick Osborn said. “It literally brings to me to tears sometimes just to know how much our guys put into it.
“I was talking to our left tackle, Jesse Higuera, following the game and he told me how when he saw one of his teammates go down with an injury, it pushed him to play harder.
“Those are the type of kids we have at El Cajon Valley. We’ll be ready for another chance to compete against (West Hills) next week.”
