EL CAJON (3-30-21) – Allyson Moody (3-3, 3R, 4 RBI, HR) drove in four runs, while Rachel Stephens (1-3, 2R, 4 RBI, HR) also matched Moody’s output with four RBI as the Christan Patriots would explode for ten runs in the third inning to really put the contest out of reach against the visiting Chula Vista Spartans, 16-3.
It was the first win of the season for the C-Pats (1-4). Chula Vista is 0-3.
Christian started the offense in the bottom of the first inning when Kate Manes knocked in Devyn Krystek (2-4, 2R, RBI, 2B) with a base hit to left field to make it 1-0.
After a lead-off base hit by Giselle Comenero (2-4, 3R), Alissa Van Der Zalm (2-3, 3R, 2 RBI) reaching on an error, and Stephens drawing a walk, Moody came to bat with the bases full. On the very first pitch, Moody smashed it over the center-field fence for a grand slam home run to extend the Patriots’ lead to 5-1.
The game really got out of hand as Christian really came alive in pushing across ten runs to make
it 15-0.
The first run came when Van Der Zalm drove in Comenero, a couple of batters later Krystek singled in Van Der Zalm, after a couple more base hits Dawnelle McLeod (2-3, R, RBI) was safe on a fielder’s choice that allowed Krystek to come home, another base hit came courtesy of Giola Giorgi (1-3, R, 2 RBI) that brought home Moody. Later in the inning, Stephens would cap things off with a three-run blast over the center-field fence.
Another run for the Patriots in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to back-to-back walks by Moody and Kate Manes (2-2, RBI) followed by a base hit by McLeod to load the bases brought
up Giorgi to the plate. With the count full Giorgi on the very next pitch was plunked which allowed Moody to trot home.
Not wanting to be shutout the Spartans were finally able to get on the board albeit too late in the top of the fifth inning with three runs.
Manes picked up the win as she gave up three runs on two hits in her five innings of work to pick up the complete-game victory. She also struck out six Spartans on the day.
