EL CAJON – Senior Joe Avalos scored 34 points and the Valhalla Norsemen earned their second win of the season with a 71-49 victory over the Mount Miguel Matadors at The Thunderdome on Thursday.
Valhalla led 12-10 after one quarter but a 20-point edge (26-6) in the second quarter provided a big lead.
The teams were even in the second half, 33-all.
Josue Amaya scored 14 points for the Norsemen, while Nate Shahatit added 11 points
GRANITE HILLS 74, EL CAPITAN 58 – The Granite Hills Eagles defeated the visiting El Capitan Vaqueros, 74-58, on Thursday evening.
It was the first game of the season for Granite Hills.
Jayden Johnson led El Capitan with 14 points, including three three-point field goals.
Daisean Desinor added 11 points, including 7-of-10 from the foul line, for the Vaqueros.
The Vaqueros fell to 0-2 on the season.
El Capitan will have its home opener versus West Hills this Saturday at 4 p.m.
Granite Hills will host Liberty Charter next Tuesday.
LIBERTY CHARTER 59, PACIFIC RIDGE 40 – The Lions defeated the Firebirds after trailing by two points at halftime.
Liberty, which improved to 2-0, outscored Pacific Ridge, 17-8, in the third quarter.
Liberty travels to take on San Pasqual tonight at 7.
MARANATHA CHRISTIAN 63, MONTE VISTA 44 – Junior Mateus Behrend scored 20 points for the Eagles against the visiting Monarchs. who led 9-8 after the first quarter.
The Monarchs are starting quickly in terms of games played. Friday night’s game with the the Norsemen will be their third-straight night with a game, and they will also play Mar Vista on Saturday.
