EL CAJON (3-22-21) – In the first game in more than a year ,the visiting El Capitan Vaqueros, behind a 16-hit attack, scored eight runs early on to pace the 10-3 victory over host Christian.
An RBI single by DAYLA MCAULIFFE (1-2, RBI) which brought in KATY HICKS (2-4, 2R) would make it 1-0 and a couple of batters later the Vaqueros would add another run on a DOM GARCIA (1-1,R) tag up from third to make it 2-0. El Capitan wasn’t done in the top of the second inning as BRANDY TAYLOR (1-4, 2R, 2 RBI) would score on an ALYSSA FIERRO (1-3, R, RBI) single, she would later score when MADDIE TAYLOR (2-5, RBI) drove her in.
El Capitan wasn’t done offensively as they would go onto add four more runs in the top of the third inning to extend their lead to 8-0. Contributing to the scoring was HAILEY MULLIGAN (2-4, R, 2 RBI, 2B) who doubled to center field bringing JOJO CHRISTIAENS (1-2, R) around to score. Earlier in the inning, Taylor drove in Hicks.
Later in the inning AVA GALL (3-3, R, 3 RBI, 2B, HR) ripped a double to bring in both Taylor and Mulligan to round out the scoring.
The Patriots would scratch across a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when KATE MANES (4-4, R, RBI, 2B) drove in ALLISON VAN DER ZALM (RUN) with a single to right field to make it 8-1.
Continuing her hot bat on the day, Gall in the top of the sixth inning smoked a 0-1 count over the center field fence to make it 9-1 Vaqueros.

Christian would cut into the deficit in the bottom half of the inning starting with a one-hit ball by RACHEL STEPHENS (1-4, R) that was misplayed, Manes followed with an infield single
advancing Stephens to second base. The Patriots now in business with runners on first and second with only one out and A MOODY (2-4, 2 RBI, 2B) stepping to the plate. On an 0-2 count
Moody would smash the offering to right field for a double that brought both Stephens and Manes home to make it 9-3.
However, the Vaqueros were not finished with their scoring as they would go onto add a final run in the top of the seventh inning. The inning for the Vaqueros would start off with back-to-
back singles by ALEX BURROUGH (1-2, R) and KYLIE MEAD (1-1) followed by a sacrifice fly by Taylor which brought home Burrough.
Moody in the circle for the Patriots took the loss, giving up 8 runs on 7 hits while striking out 2 and walking 1.
For the Vaqueros and picking up her first varsity victory was McAuliffe who tossed 5 innings in which she only gave up 1 run on 7 hits while walking 2 and fanning 5 on the day.
